Vegetable

In everyday usage, a vegetable is any part of a plant that is consumed by humans as food as part of a savory meal. The term "vegetable" is somewhat arbitrary, and largely defined through culinary and cultural tradition. It normally excludes other food derived from plants such as fruits, nuts and cereal grains, but includes seeds such as pulses. The original meaning of the word vegetable, still used in biology, was to describe all types of plant, as in the terms "vegetable kingdom" and "vegetable matter".

Originally, vegetables were collected from the wild by hunter-gatherers and entered cultivation in several parts of the world, probably during the period 10,000 BC to 7,000 BC, when a new agricultural way of life developed. At first, plants which grew locally would have been cultivated, but as time went on, trade brought exotic crops from elsewhere to add to domestic types. Nowadays, most vegetables are grown all over the world as climate permits, and crops may be cultivated in protected environments in less suitable locations. China is the largest producer of vegetables, and global trade in agricultural products allows consumers to purchase vegetables grown in faraway countries. The scale of production varies from subsistence farmers supplying the needs of their family for food, to agribusinesses with vast acreages of single-product crops. Depending on the type of vegetable concerned, harvesting the crop is followed by grading, storing, processing and marketing.

Stella (U.S. TV series)

Stella was a short-lived television series that originally ran from June 28, 2005 to August 30, 2005 on the American television channel Comedy Central, created by and starring Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain, the three members of the sketch comedy troupe of the same name and former cast members of MTV's The State. Stella, as a comedy troupe, has existed since 1997. It has a cult following and plays to sold out shows across the USA. The show aired on Tuesdays at 10:30 PM, EST.

In September, after 10 episodes, Stella's timeslot was filled by Mind of Mencia. On March 8, 2006, the following message was posted on Stella's official website: "The STELLA series was on Comedy Central last summer. The network has officially decided not to renew it for a second season," thus effectively cancelling the series. The first season DVD was released on September 12, 2006. Episodes have also been available on iTunes and Hulu and some episodes on Joost. Stella premiered in Australia on The Comedy Channel on May 3, 2007.

Vegetables (song)

"Vegetables" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks for American rock band the Beach Boys, released as the second track on their 1967 album Smiley Smile. Paul McCartney of the Beatles appeared on an earlier version of the song entitled "Vega-Tables", chewing celery as percussion.

The song was partly inspired by Wilson's obsession with physical fitness in the late 1960s, and he intended Smile to be a "health food album". In 1969, this culminated in him opening a short-lived health food store, the Radiant Radish located in West Hollywood, California.

A discarded bridge section from "Vega-Tables" was later recycled as the a cappella "Mama Says", released on their 1967 album Wild Honey, featuring heavily syncopated vocals by the group.

Composition

The song was composed in 1966 and first attempted during the aborted Smile sessions. Jules Siegel has said that while using marijuana with Wilson and the "Beach Boys marijuana-consumption squad" Michael Vosse mused at how violence in their "vegetative" state could not be achieved, provoking laughter and further discussion of being a vegetable. Siegel said that this encounter was what inspired Wilson to write the song. David Leaf has said the song was based on Wilson's reported health obsession at the time. Wilson later said, "I want to turn people on to vegetables, good natural food, organic food. Health is an important element in spiritual enlightenment. But I do not want to be pompous about it, so we will engage in a satirical approach." "Vega-Tables" was envisioned to fulfill the Earth part of "The Elements" suite devised for Smile.

Export is a Canadian line of cigarettes and rolling tobacco produced by JTI Macdonald . Introduced in 1928 by Macdonald Tobacco as Macdonald's Gold Standard, the boxes were marked "Export" and they quickly became known under that name. The most recognized products are the Export 'A' product line. However, JTI also produces an unfiltered 'Export Plain' cigarette and Export rolling tobacco.

Fresh! is the debut album from Australian dance-pop singer/songwriter Gina G. The album peaked at No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 27 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart. The album is certified Silver (marking sales of 60,000) in the United Kingdom.

The lead single "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit", written by Simon Tauber and Steve Rodway, was first released in March 1996 in the UK. It was the selected as the UK's entry for the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest. Despite placing 8th, the song went on to achieve worldwide success, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 the following year. It is one of very few Eurovision entries to chart in the US market. The album went on feature five additional singles, four of which were co-written by Gina G. "I Belong To You" and "Fresh!"
